Optimized yard management software for efficient airport logistics

SMP Deutschland GmbH is part of the globally active Samvardhana Motherson Group and a leading manufacturer of high-quality plastic components for the automotive industry, such as bumpers, door panels and instrument panels. The company decided to use the SYNCROSUPPLY yard management system from INFORM back in 2015. Since then, the system has been used at all German sites to centrally control time slot planning, arrival registration, allocation and dispatching of lorries.

In a brief interview, Ramona Pillmeier, Outbound Logistics Manager at SMP Deutschland GmbH, explains the benefits of SYNCROSUPPLY in daily yard management and what is important when getting started.

1. what role does SYNCROSUPPLY play in your company's logistics?

In view of current challenges such as resource availability, transparency and sustainability, digital yard management is a key component of sustainable logistics. SYNCROSUPPLY is indispensable for our site. It enables us to manage truck traffic smoothly and ensures that every loading and unloading operation can be clearly assigned. The use of journey numbers in particular has proved its worth - it helps us to guarantee safe and efficient processing even in the event of language barriers.

2. which function of the software would you no longer want to do without in your daily work?

In a dynamic logistics environment, it is often the small, well-integrated functions that make the biggest difference. For me, SYNCROSUPPLY clearly offers the option of storing regular tours for JIT transports on a one-off basis. This reduces our administrative workload enormously and guarantees a consistently reliable process for regular transports. Automatic recording and control saves time and increases accuracy.

3. what advice would you give companies that want to get involved in yard management?

The introduction of a yard management system is a strategic step and, as with any sustainable change, good preparation is essential. Companies should therefore take sufficient time for the introduction. A thorough analysis and good preparation are worthwhile, as the system not only brings greater efficiency in the long term, but also a high level of planning security and transparency to the processes.
